Greetings,
Our Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police continues to actively monitor the events of last week and the subsequent information, misinformation and inappropriate public comments that have been made by some in our community and beyond.
Rest assured; your complete FOP team remains fully engaged as we await the completion of the investigation of the facts (not conjecture) involved in each incident.
In the interim, reasonable concerns for the safety of our officers and their families continue to mount given the various public statements, acts of violence and the threat of additional violence directed toward law enforcement officers throughout Marion County.
We have shared our concerns with various leaders of the IMPD and the City of Indianapolis. We expect public statements to be based on fact and not speculation, and that make clear any threats or acts of violence toward law enforcement officers and their families is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
We are confident the Command Staff of the IMPD is monitoring and are fully aware of such threats and related information.
Our law enforcement professionals are remarkably resilient and committed to the safety of our city and our police personnel. As such it is imperative that each officer remain vigilant regarding on duty situational awareness. It is just as important to have enhanced situational awareness for you and your families during times of on duty AND off duty activities. This also includes online safety and privacy.
Additionally, as officers we must remain collectively and individually vigilant regarding Covid provisions. Nothing has changed on this front and the chances for infection and cross contamination remain and will only expand as local events continue and statewide restrictions are loosened.
These are very challenging times for our profession. Few can ever fully appreciate the stressors and known/unknown dangers our law enforcement families face on a daily basis. Yet our police professionals throughout Indianapolis/Marion County are second to none. Let’s remain focused on what we can control…together.
As always: stay healthy, stay safe and keep looking up.
Fraternally,
Rick Snyder
President
