Greetings, fellow retirees. I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying this lovely summer weather. Can you believe it, a record number of days above 90, with a couple of 100 degree days thrown in for good measure? I almost broke out in a sweat on the golf course. Speaking of golf, our lodge hosted a very successful State golf tournament back in July. We had over 200 players from around the state. Congratulations to Steve Kinkaid and his committee. Now, Steve, it’s on to the state conference next year. You’ll be hearing more about that in the coming months. In August Jan and I, along with the other delegates from 86 including several retirees, attended the National FOP Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was proud of our delegation for being on the floor and attending to business, when the conference was in session. After hours were spent having cocktails around the hotel pool or sightseeing. Ask Leo Blackwell about the slide for life on the bobsled, or whatever it was. One of the most important things was the election of National Officers for the next two years. They are, Chuck Caterbury[SC], Pres., Ed Brannigan[NJ],Vice Pres., Patrick Yoes[LA], Secty., Tom Penoza[DE], Tres. and Roger Mayberry[CA], Sgt. At Arms.
Past-Pres. Chuck Broeking is at home recovering from shoulder surgery and Mike Sergi is scheduled for surgery on his neck on the 29th of Sept. We wish them both well and a speedy recovery.
Lodge #86 has a new and improved web site. Check it out at, www.fop86.org. It has up to date information as well as upcoming events. It will also contain an electronic version of the Siren.
We continue to meet on the second Thursday of the month. Our next meeting is October 13th. We start gathering around noon, short meeting at 1PM, followed by lunch. Tony has said in the spirit of Oktoberfest, he will fix German food. Should be interesting, hope to see you there. Until then, stay healthy and safe.
