On September 25th, the Pension Management Oversight Committee had their third and final meeting to discuss their proposed legislation.
Prior to the meeting Leo Blackwell, Toby Deaton, Tom Hanify (Professional Firefighters of Indiana), and I met with Senator Ford where he informed us that he was withdrawing his proposal (SB75) due to the fiscal impact. He advised that he would support the proposal put forth by the State F.O.P., State Firefighters Association, Chiefs of Police Association, and State Fire Chiefs Association.
At the P.M.O.C. meeting the proposal was read and explained to the committee members. At the end of the meeting, the proposal was unanimously passed out of P.M.O.C. What this essentially means is that the proposal was vetted through the committee and can now go to the Indiana General Assembly as recommended by the P.M.O.C. The action taken was very encouraging, but it should be noted that this bill could look different by the time it reaches a vote.
Senator Ford has agreed to sponsor and introduce the bill to the Senate side and Representative Woody Burton will sponsor the bill on the house side. Representative Burton is the current chairman of the P.M.O.C.
We will advise should there be further action necessary by the membership.
We will keep you updated in the future through the legislative bulletin put out by our General Counsel Leo Blackwell.
