Greetings,
On Monday 10/10/16, the City of Indianapolis issued notice of Information Sessions for the upcoming 2017 Open Enrollment for Health Insurance.
Each member is strongly encouraged to attend one (1) of these sessions over the next two (2) weeks. The dates and locations are attached below to this message.
NOTE: There will be two (2) sessions hosted at the FOP Lodge. The first on Wednesday 10/19/16 at 1:30 PM and the other Wednesday 10/26/16 at 3:30 PM.
As expected for the past couple of years now, there will not be any HMO plan offering beginning 01/01/17. This was also conveyed earlier this year during the transition from Advantage to Anthem.
Therefore, it is imperative that all (Active/Retired) members take advantage of these educational sessions in order to make informed decisions related to the various Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) offerings.
Based upon recent meetings of our health insurance advisory committee and rate projections under the Affordable Health Care Act and other private vendors, we do anticipate substantive increases in the 2017 premiums for any health plan offered by the City.
Be assured, your FOP Contract Team is cognizant of these probable increases as they diligently continue their work for 2017 and beyond. As mentioned in previous updates on the Contract (see website) discussions are continuing to progress and we are hopeful for a satisfactory agreement soon.
In the interim, we have also empaneled our contractual Retiree Health Insurance committee in anticipation of the expected transition from the HMO model to CDHP for current and future retirees.
I am pleased to announce, for the first time, our Retiree Health Insurance Trust will offer contributions ($500/single and $1,000/family) to HSA's for eligible retirees beginning in 2017. Detailed information is being mailed to current retirees. This is a significant positive step for our retirees and their families.
I have also asked Danny Overley to be in attendance along with City representatives at the upcoming information sessions at the FOP (10/19 at 1:30 PM & 10/26 at 3:30 PM) to help all of our members with any questions.
Each (Active/Retired) member will need to make informed decisions which address the unique health care needs for themselves and their families. BE INFORMED.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Fraternally,
Rick Snyder, President
