Indianapolis to welcome 5,800 law enforcement officers
INDIANAPOLIS – Fraternal Order of Police Grand Lodge members have selected Indianapolis as the 2021 host city for their Biennial National Conference. The Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #86 will join the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, City of Indianapolis, and Visit Indy to welcome an estimated 5,800 law enforcement officers and their families to Indy August 16-19, 2021.
"We are proud to bring the checkered flag home to Indy," said Indianapolis FOP President Rick Snyder, "We are also pleased to help provide a significant economic impact for our local business community and our local/state tax revenues."
The decision was made by an all-member floor vote at the 2017 Biennial National Conference held in Nashville August 28-31. The 2019 Biennial National Conference will be held in New Orleans.
“It is truly a privilege to host this important group of men and women who selflessly serve our communities each and every day, keeping residents safe,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Indianapolis is well positioned to be the best host city yet for our country’s largest gathering of active law enforcement officers. Our downtown is walkable and vibrant, our 78,000 hospitality workers go above and beyond to deliver signature hospitality, and our local FOP Lodge #86 is ready to ensure a memorable experience for their fellow officers.”
The Fraternal Order of Police Grand Lodge is the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 330,000 members. More than 5,800 members will gather in Indy to network with fellow officers, engage in professional development, and connect with innovative new products and ideas.
“We are honored to be selected to host the Fraternal Order of Police’s Biennial National Conference and Expo in Indy in 2021,” said Leonard Hoops, president and CEO of Visit Indy. “While the economic impact of the event will be significant - more than $7 million - it is also a special opportunity to show our appreciation to the men and women in law enforcement and public safety who protect our communities, and communities across the country.”
