We have received numerous complaints since the beginning of the year regarding members who have sought medical care, prescription services and other medical needs and were subsequently advised of gaps within their insurance coverage. We have brought these issues to the attention of the Controller’s Office, our Insurance vendors, the Auditor’s Office and the Department of Public Safety. As a result, many of the individual issues have been resolved and the City is now in the process of completing audits of the overall benefits systems. We will soon be publishing a culmination of updates related to the problems we have identified.
Additionally, we have learned of recent problems with a significant number of 1099 tax documents for our retirees. An update letter is being mailed by the end of this week and we plan to ensure these matters are satisfactorily resolved as well. In the interim, know that your FOP is diligently working on these matters for this year and we are ensuring steps are taken to prevent these gaps from occurring next year.
